Trent Small, Sarah Chavez and Daniel Marquez, students in Andrea Polli’s Computational Sustainability class created a prototype app called, “gastastic.” This android app gives the user information on the amount of gas their car uses at a given time and translates the amount of energy into another context. The user enters their vehicle’s information, and gastastic estimates gas usage based on that. Then the user drives a distance, and the app will tell you how much energy you used, and spins the information into clever contexts for the user to think about. “based of the distance i just drove, how many times could I have charged my phone? or powered a light bulb?” The answers are quite interesting and takes the concept of what it takes to power a car and makes the user think more about energy potential.
